Insurance Agent Jobs

Insurance agents are responsible for selling insurance policies to individuals and businesses.  From making calls to potential customers regarding an insurance plan to taking care of paper work related to insurance policy, an insurance agent handles it all.

In general, insurance agents handle the following responsibilities:

  • Meeting customers, understanding their policies and briefing them about insurance policies and plans to meet their needs
  • Helping customers with paperwork and documents needed to buy a policy
  • Maintaining records of insurance policies sold
  • Helping existing customers renew insurance policies and settle their claims

Typically, insurance agents earn an average salary of $45,000 annually. However, there is a lot of scope to make additional money by collecting high commissions.

You don’t necessarily need to meet any educational requirements to be an insurane agent. However, having a bachelor’s degree in finance or risk management increases your chances of getting a job and opens up scope for future growth.
